Samohi softball placed an impressive eight players on the All-Ocean League team, it was announced on Thursday.

Leading the pack was junior catcher Kelly Ricard, who was named most valuable player after hitting .481 with 11 runs batted in and two homers. Not to be outdone, first-year coach Marybell Moreno earned coach of the year honors for leading her team to a 10th consecutive league title and a perfect 10-0 record in Ocean play.

First team selections included Meghan Bradley, Natalie Abel and Sara Garcia. The second team features Kelsey Hom, Amanda Delgadillo, Marissa Padilla and Jaime Hom.

Despite losing seniors Bradley, Abel, Kelsey Hom and Delgadillo, Moreno thinks underclassmen like MVP Ricard and possible future pitching ace Garcia will continue Samohi’s annual dominance of the Ocean League.

“I hope this gives them motivation to keep playing hard,” Moreno said. “It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers.”
