ARCADIA — Santa Monica High School’s boys’ tennis team has reached the final of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs with a 15-3 rout of Arcadia on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Samohi boys’ volleyball sent home

It was one and done for the Samohi boys’ volleyball team in the CIF Regional Championships.

Samohi, this season’s CIF-SS Division 4 champion, lost at Chula Vista Otay Ranch in four games on Tuesday; 25-22, 19-25, 19-25 and 15-25.

“We couldn’t get our rhythm going tonight,” Head Coach Liane Sato wrote via e-mail. “It was very rough.”

Sato did single out the play of junior Trevor Pye and senior Charles Levy, who was thrust into being the team’s primary offensive threat when outside hitter Eric Barber was shelved for the season due to knee surgery.

“Levy stepped up and did a fantastic job co-captaining the team with Eric,” she wrote.

Otay Ranch advances to face Burbank Burroughs in the regional semifinals today.

St. Monica places six on all-league team

St. Monica’s boys’ volleyball team’s perfect 10-0 Camino Real League record has paid off in the form of six all-league selections for the Mariners.

Tanner Peach was the league Most Valuable Player and made the first team along with Sia Moala and Chaz Moynaugh. Max Garris, Thomas Maher and Jesse Rubio made the second team.

With the league win, St. Monica qualified for the playoffs, but was eliminated in the second round by San Gabriel Academy earlier this month.
