Good karma won’t be the only thing volunteers with Heal the Bay have a shot at taking home following summer beach cleanups. Thanks to a partnership with Ford, picking up cigarette butts and other urban debris could earn you a new, eco-friendly car.
The “Nothin’ but Sand” cleanup events, kicking off this Saturday at Dockweiler State Beach, will provide volunteers with a chance to test drive a Ford vehicle. For every test drive, Ford will donate $50 to Heal the Bay. At each cleanup, one lucky volunteer will win a “virtual” key that could potentially start the winning vehicle at the final Coastal Cleanup Day event, scheduled for Sept. 17.
“Cleanups are a great way to take direct action to improve the health of our local environment,” said Meredith McCarthy, Heal the Bay’s programs director. “Volunteers can leave with a good feeling about the ocean, not to mention a good chance to win a new car.”
Following the Dockweiler event, the Heal the Bay-Ford cleanup campaign shifts to Will Rogers State Beach (June 18 and Aug. 20) and Playa del Rey (July 16).
Volunteers can come to all the Nothin’ But Sand Cleanups this summer and take a test drive to increase their odds of winning.
