PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — A Santa Monica woman who was seen dancing naked on top of a roughly five-story building on Main Street threw herself off in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.
Raisa Shamailovna Danilova, 27, was in critical but stable condition Thursday, a day after several people watched as she climbed to the ledge of the One Life Natural Foods market building and leaped off the top floor, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
“She suffered a pretty significant head wound,” Lewis said. “I don’t think she is out of the woods yet.”
Lewis said Danilova’s father was notified and approved the release of his daughter’s name.
After interviewing witnesses and viewing photos taken by a bystander, detectives determined Danilova tried to commit suicide after a day of possibly drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. She landed feet first near a sidewalk after dancing naked on the roof for several minutes, causing a crowd to gather, witnesses told the Daily Press.
Police are still trying to determine if other drugs were involved, Lewis said.
Lewis said Danilova hit decorative lighting that was strung along Main Street, possibly lessening the impact.
Two people, a man and a woman in their mid to late 20s, were seen with Danilova before she jumped. They ran from the scene but were detained by police shortly after. Detectives interviewed them and they were released, Lewis said.
