Film and television actor Josh Duhamel, joined by a number of celebrity friends, teamed up with the American Red Cross of Santa Monica to raise $150,000 for Japanese earthquake/tsunami relief at last Sunday’s “Youth Run 4 Japan” fundraiser on Santa Monica Beach.

According to the Santa Monica Fire Department, an estimated 4,000 folks either ran the 2-mile course up and down the beach or cheered on the participants. Runners were asked to make a $10 donation for American Red Cross Japan earthquake/tsunami relief efforts. Additional monies were raised through T-shirt sales and other contributions.

Other celebrities who participated in the run were Duhamel’s wife, singer and actress Stacy Ferguson (Fergie) and heiress Paris Hilton. They were joined by Nicky Hilton, actress Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica”) and actress Dianna Agron (“Glee”).

In January, 2010, Duhamel led 2,500 runners in a similar beach run and raised over $100,000 for Red Cross Haitian earthquake relief.

Monies collected at the run will go to the American Red Cross for Japan disaster relief. Checks and money orders are still being accepted and should be made out to “American Red Cross — Japan relief.” Donations may also be charged on credit cards or donors can text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
