The team of consultants charged with finding the next superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu-Unified School District is asking for the community’s help.
Peggy Lynch and Michael Escalante of Leadership Associates, the firm chosen by the school board to find a replacement for Tim Cuneo, who is retiring in June, are holding three listening sessions next month to gather input from parents, employees and others interested in the future of the district.
The consultants want to know: What personal and professional qualities for an incoming superintendent will be a match for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District?
Two concurrent sessions are being held in Santa Monica on Feb. 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Grant Elementary School’s auditorium (2368 Pearl St.) and at Lincoln Middle School’s auditorium (1501 California Ave.).
On Feb. 2, a session is being held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Malibu High School library (30215 Morning View Dr.)

PALISADES PARK
CVB honors longtime greeter
The Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau will dedicate a plaque at the Palisades Park visitor kiosk on Sunday in honor of longtime employee Thelma Hazel Parks, who died recently at 97.
For the last 23 years, up until her death, Parks, who was born in Brisbane, Australia, worked as a travel counselor for the CVB, greeting visitors from around the world.
She spent time at the Palisades Park kiosk before moving to the Main Street Visitor Center in later years.
“She really was everything that a host should be,” one of her CVB colleagues told the Daily Press.
Parks also managed a 20-unit apartment building and was active in the Freda Mohr Senior Center.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.
