The Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking for a few good men and women to help welcome University of Wisconsin fans for a Rose Bowl pep rally Thursday at the Santa Monica Pier.
The Badgers have chosen Santa Monica as the location for their official pep rally. The CVB expects over 25,000 fans to attend.
Volunteers will help welcome fans, and guide them through the city by the sea. Volunteers will be holding signs directing fans toward the rally, as well as hand out maps and special deals at local restaurants and shops. Volunteers are to arrive at the visitor center kiosk near Bubba Gump restaurant on 2 p.m. on Thursday. Volunteers should wear black pants and comfortable shoes. A black sweatshirt will be provided.
Volunteers will have a chance to win prizes, including a pair of tickets on Starline Tours, Pacific Park tickets and restaurant gift certificates. For more information contact the CVB at (310) 319-6263.
The 97th annual Rose Bowl will feature the No. 5 BCS ranked Wisconsin Badgers and the No. 3 BCS ranked Texas Christian University Horned Frogs. It will be played on New Year’s Day at 2 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Wisconsin finished the year with an 11-1 overall record (7-1 in conference) and shares the Big Ten Conference championship with Michigan State and Ohio State. The Badgers earned the Big Ten Conference BCS automatic qualifier as the highest ranked BCS team. They are making their sixth appearance in the Rose Bowl Game, and first since 2000. Wisconsin is 3-3 in its Rose Bowl Game appearances. The Badgers will be making its ninth consecutive bowl appearance and first BCS bowl game since the 2000 Rose Bowl Game.
