School shopping takes on a whole new meaning at Santa Monica Place this holiday season. Throughout the entire month of December, the mall is helping shoppers make valuable contributions to their schools of choice as part of the “Get Gifted” holiday program.

People need only bring their Santa Monica Place retail and/or restaurant receipts from Dec. 1-31 to the concierge and let them know which school they are supporting. Santa Monica Place will donate 5 percent of their total purchases to their school of choice. Up to $50,000 will be given away.

As well, the single school named most often by supporters will receive an additional $5,000.

“The holidays are a wonderful time of year for giving gifts — not only to one another — but also to causes and organizations our community cares about,” said Adrienne DeVore, senior marketing manager for Santa Monica Place. “Our December ‘Get Gifted’ program for schools gives our shoppers an easy new way to support their schools at the same time they are buying gifts for their family and friends or enjoying the exciting holiday experience at our property.”

In addition to helping schools, the “Get Gifted” holiday program at Santa Monica Place every Friday also includes:

• Random giveaways of free gift cards (100 or more every Friday throughout the season).

• Free, one-day valet parking pass valid in January 2011 with same-day purchases of $250 or more on any Friday in December.

• Gift Guru — a professional, L.A.-based stylist — who will be ready with great advice for shoppers on fashion, gift-giving and more every Friday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Get Gifted Lounge next to the concierge on the main level.

• Inspire Your Style, invites Santa Monica Place shoppers to enter to win a $10,000 shopping spree, along with fun, fashion- and gift-giving ideas
