SAN JOSE — For the first time since suiting up for Santa Monica High School, Amar Pal will finally play in a football game that matters.

But the San Jose State offensive lineman won’t be taking on the likes of Beverly Hills or Culver City, he’ll be lining up against the No. 1 team in the country: Alabama.

After redshirting and missing last season, Pal has been named to the second unit, but has had some practice time with SJU’s starters. He said that his coaches haven’t told him specifically he may play, but considering how the summer has gone, Pal may see some playing time. Also, being second string means that he’s an injury away from being thrust into the biggest game of his life.

“Personally, I’m a little nervous,” Pal said. “It will be my first time on the field with the starting unit and all.”

He said once he lays a block on an opposing defender things should fall into place.

The game is scheduled for Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. SJU begins the season unranked.
