Four people have been killed in Los Angeles County, and 299 suspected drunken drivers were arrested on L.A. County freeways this holiday weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The report covers the time period from 6:01 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.
During this 60-hour reporting period, there were four people killed in L.A. County and a total of 18 statewide. The CHP also reported it made 299 arrests in L.A. County and 1,329 arrests statewide for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The CHP’s drunken driving statistics add up only those arrests made by CHP, not those made by local police agencies. The statewide CHP fatality total includes all of California, but sometimes lags behind events as reports are submitted to the CHP by local police agencies.
The complete holiday weekend tally will be released today, the CHP said.
