A 26-year-old man was charged Tuesday with murder in a weekend crash that killed a teenage girl on Pacific Coast Highway at Point Dume.

Sina Khankhanian pleaded not guilty in connection with the death of 13-year-old Emily Rose Shane, who was struck on PCH at Heathercliff Drive at 5:11 p.m. on Saturday.

Shortly after the crash, authorities alleged that a preliminary investigation revealed that Khankhanian deliberately crashed his 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, but did not intend to hit the Malibu student, who was walking along the road.

The murder charge includes the allegation of personal use of a deadly and dangerous weapon — an automobile.

Khankhanian is due back at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles on May 6. A date is scheduled to be set then for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for the case against him to proceed to trial.
