Cops will be on the lookout for drunk drivers this Friday, Nov. 20, holding a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Michigan Avenue. Police officers will be contacting drivers to confirm sobriety and check their driver’s license status. This will be the first of a series of checkpoints that will occur over the next 12 months. These checkpoints were set up as an attempt to lower the number of alcohol-related deaths and to remind the public to have a designated driver or to call a taxi cab if one consumes alcohol.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Law enforcement officers are doing more to remove drunk drivers from California’s streets and highways thanks to our DUI traffic safety funding,” said Christopher J. Murphy, director of the California Office of Traffic Safety. “But everyone can help make their communities safer. If you see a drunk driver — call 911.”
