The Santa Monica High School wrestling team continues preparation for its 50-year anniversary campaign with a car wash fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Santa Monica High School north parking lot.
Having graduated nine varsity starters from last year’s sixth place CIF-ranked team, head coach Mark Black says “the Vikings will field a young but experienced lineup this season.”
Seniors Ben Yura and Paul Chen lead a group of five returning varsity lettermen including Austin Chadwick, Wesley Evans, Gianni Forster, AJ Mims and Neil Thomas.
The competitive season begins with a Thanksgiving Freshmen Novice Tournament at El Camino College and progresses to six varsity tournaments and another six lower level weekend competitions. The team will be competing in the Pioneer League with four dual meets in January and February including home competitions against Torrance, Jan. 7, and Beverly Hills, Feb. 4.
