EL CAJON — Turnovers and miscues foiled St. Monica at Christian of El Cajon on Saturday in a 24-20 loss.
St. Monica Head Coach Larry Muno said that although Christian was a formidable team, it was his own side that let the victory slip away. The Mariners’ offense turned the ball over twice inside of the Christian 5-yard line. With the loss, St. Monica is 1-1 on the season.
Senior quarterback Matthew Partyka threw for over 300 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. One of his scoring passes went to receiver Sam Holguin for 70 yards.
“[Turnovers] were the only frustrating thing,” Muno said. “They were well coached, but we really should have won that game.”
St. Monica’s next game will come Saturday against Malibu. The game will be played at St. Bernard’s, St. Monica’s home field.
