CITYWIDE — Winter sports will be in full playoff mode starting today as boys’ soccer begins its playoffs.

Santa Monica High School, the winner of the Ocean League and the No. 5 ranked team in CIF-Southern Section Division 4, will host the winner of a wild card game today at 3 p.m. It will be either Bonita or Lawndale.

New Roads opens the first round at Paraclete. The Jaguars enter the game as the third place finisher from the Coastal League. That game also begins at 3 p.m.

The city is represented by just Samohi on the girls side. Samohi travels to Orange Coast League winner Laguna Beach on Friday at 3 p.m. Samohi finished the year in third in the Ocean League.

St. Monica, Samohi girls prep for playoffs

St. Monica’s girls basketball team earned a CIF-SS Division 4A home playoff game as the Mariners host Loma Linda Academy.

St. Monica enters the game as the No. 6 ranked team in the division and grabbed a Camino Real League championship.

The game is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

Samohi’s girls will travel to Buena, also on Saturday.

They finished the year in second place in the Ocean League. The Vikings reached the semi-finals last season, but lost to eventual champ Mater Dei.
