If you’ve ever wanted to learn a new language, the Santa Monica Library is offering something that will help.
Mango Languages is a free online tool that offers a variety of languages to choose from including: French, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, German, Greek, Italian, and more. Library cardholders can access Mango via the library’s web site at www.smpl.org/research. To become a library cardholder visit one of the four Santa Monica Public Library locations.
Each Mango lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. Users learn actual conversations, breaking down complex conversational elements within an audio-visual framework that allows the user to draw important connections between pieces of information they have already learned.
“The public library is in the business of life-long learning and this language tool will be a terrific addition to the library’s online resources,” said City Librarian Greg Mullen. “Mango Languages is available 24/7 to anyone with a library card and the inclination to learn something new.”
A variety of online tools and databases are available through the library web site www.smpl.org. For more information, visit any of the library’s four locations, call the Reference Hotline at (310) 434-2608 or e-mail email@example.com.
