WILSHIRE BLVD — A 42-year-old woman was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after she was struck by a car while jaywalking across Wilshire Boulevard, police said.

The collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, said Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The woman who was hit was walking north to south in the middle of Wilshire when she was struck by a driver traveling east.

The woman was transported to a local trauma center for surgery, but her condition was not available by presstime.

The driver of the vehicle did not appear to be under the influence and cooperated with officers, Lewis said.

Police closed a portion of Wilshire Boulevard. The road was reopened by 5 p.m., Lewis said.
