The girls’ basketball team at St. Monica kept its hot streak going with a close 39-38 defeat of Camino Real League rival Cantwell-Sacred Heart Tuesday on campus.
The win improved St. Monica to 12-14 overall and 5-2 in league. The second place Mariners are assured a spot in the playoffs. Cantwell-Sacred Heart retained its hold on first place.
St. Monica, winners of six of its last seven games, was again led by the school’s all-time scoring leader Cory LaGuardia, who tallied 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Freshman guard Katrina Balatico added 14 points.
Next for St. Monica is the season finale at home against Pasadena La Salle. It will be senior night.
