CORSAIR FIELD — Santa Monica College lost a shootout with San Bernardino Valley, 40-35, on Saturday at the Main Campus.

Down 21-14 heading into the second half, the Corsairs’ football team was able to rally, but couldn’t convert on its last possession as SMC fell to 2-2 on the season.

Former Santa Monica High School standout wide receiver Kris Comas scored three times for the Corsairs in the defeat. Comas finished the night with six catches, good for 152 yards.

SMC has a bye this week and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 against Santa Barbara on the road.

St. Monica evens record at 2-2

St. Monica used a strong second half to down nearby Brentwood, 34-14, on Saturday at Corsair Field.

The Mariners trailed 14-7 at the end of the first half, but finished strong behind the play of running backs Sean Martinez and Kevin Holubowski, who finished with two touchdowns each.

The win improves St. Monica to 2-2 this season.

Next for St. Monica is a home game against Pasadena Blair on Friday at Corsair Field. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
