How to Survive and Thrive in a Crabs-in-the-Bucket Mentality
On March 2nd, 2013 UpLatino and Get Wise Latinas, organizations committed to the empowerment, mentorship, and solidarity of Latinas, will host a workshop for women.
As part of Women’s HerStory Month, 3 Latina authors will join renowned “The New Latina’s Bible” author, Sandra Guzman in an open dialogue with attendees surrounding the “crabs-in-the-bucket” metaphor, a professional mentality that breeds envy and competitiveness among the career driven.
WHO: Sandra Guzmán is an Emmy-winning journalist, media consultant, producer, and blogger. She is well versed in the entertainment arena as former editor for various publications including Latina Magazine, the New York Post, and as a producer at Telemundo and Fox television networks. Sandra is also a dynamic motivational speaker represented by one of the leading speaking agencies of the world, the American Program Bureau.
Joining Sandra Guzmán are Joanna Ilizaliturri Diaz, Susana Orosco, and Margo de Leon, authors of the celebrated 8 Ways to Say I love My Life Project. Joanna Ilizaliturri Diaz is author and playwright of the 8 Ways Project, a health fanatic and an eager philanthropist. Susana Orosco has devoted 25 years to public speaking and strives to empower Latinos with publications such as “Latino Power: 7 Powers All Latinos Have Upon Which to Build an Empire.” Margo de Leon is a gifted motivational speaker devoted to improving the self-confidence and inner-strength of her young audiences; she is also an author and poet who uses her personal struggles as a way to share her emotional insight with readers.
The 8 Ways to Say I love My Life Project is a collection of autobiographical stories resonating messages of inspiration, growth, triumph, and love as written by eight Latina women.
WHAT: The workshop is open to all women in the community. Registration is $25 and seating is limited.
