Youngsters create an entire musical play in five fun-filled days in this spectacular adventure in imagination where kids 6 to 14 dive into all aspects of play production, music, movement, dance, acting and self-expression, making friends and performing an original mini-musical, complete with costumes, make-up, props, lights and sound! It’s the extremely popular ShortBurst Create-a-Play Acting Camp at Santa Monica Playhouse, where kids have fun discovering the joy of creativity and theatre magic. “I can’t stop smiling cheek to cheek!” beamed student Maia A. after her first day. Three summer sessions to choose from – one for every schedule: Summer Starter: June 10-14; Midsummer Madness: July 15-19; Summer’s End: August 12-16, 9:00am to 3:00pm daily.“A delight! As I always tell other parents, you get more for your money (more fun, more education, more actual camp hours) at the SM Playhouse than any other camp available,” says workshop mom Mary Redfield. Working with professional theatre artists to create an astonishing piece of original theatre, presented for friends and family, and the public, on the last day of each session, makes it all the more special. It’s the perfect way for aspiring thespians or curious first-timers to spend an enchanting week, get a taste of what expressive imagination is all about, build self-confidence and make new friends, too. Maroon 5’s Mickey Madden calls the Playhouse Acting Program “Great in so many ways!” Playhouse alumni include Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter, Jason Segel and Newark Superintendent of Schools Cami Anderson.
