Ocean Park author Marcy Winograd and co-author Jackie Hirtz invite young teens, tweens, families and friends to a reading of their new tween novel – Lola Zola and the Lemonade Crush. Not only will the authors read, but young teens will also have an opportunity to dramatize dialogue from the novel.
In the book sixth-grader Lola Zola prays to the Smooch God her laid-off parents won’t let joblessness tear them apart. To rescue her family, including her tail-less tuxedo cat, Lola sells lemonade rumored to erase wrinkles, clear up allergies, and even promote world peace in the desert town of Mirage. But then — Lola’s rival for class president – Charles Wembly III ( Buck or Slime Bucket) opens a competing “limo stand” out of the back of his daddy’s deluxe Cadillac, challenging Lola on her truth-stretching slogans and attracting thirsty hordes . Lola’s ace is her “lemon spice does entice” recipe, which receives a seal of whisker approval from her normally-skeptical cat. Just when it looks like Lola might triumph in this class struggle-battle of the sexes, she learns a secret that forces her to redefine what it means to win. Could it be that this lemonade rival has morphed into a lemonade crush?
