“One of the best in the country!” hails Variety. The Teen Performance LAB is a specially designed workshop program for actors 12 to 17 where students plunge into the world of theatre and acting through a unique experience found only at Santa Monica Playhouse. Grandma Christella Cain raves, “You are proof that dreams and possibilities are endless when you believe in yourself.” Members of the Teen Performance LAB work with theatre professionals in a supportive and dynamic atmosphere to create an original production based on the world in which they live, an always awesome play in which each student is featured and challenged to be the best that they can be. Students study the world-renowned Playhouse acting method, learning how to build a trusting theatre ensemble, participating in exercises and theatre games which promote truthful, authentic expression, and inspire joy and self-confidence through theatre arts. Classes also focus on voice and movement, writing, makeup and costumes, lighting and sound, and culminate in a fully mounted stage production. Limited class size means every student receives personal attention, developing the ability to excel in performance on any stage and in any artistic endeavor – theatre, dance, musical performance, television, film – from school productions to the Broadway stage. “Santa Monica Playhouse programs teach teamwork, tolerance, creativity, focus, listening skills, discipline, self esteem, confidence building, responsibility, camaraderie and more. These are invaluable practical and creative skills my daughter will be able to draw on and continue to develop throughout her educational career and into adulthood,” raves workshop mom K. Taylor. Enhanced study and communication skills are a welcome by-product of this renowned method. Playhouse alumni include Kate Hudson, Jason Ritter, Zoey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Obi Ndefo, Jason Segel, Mickey Madden, Shana Feste, Rina Mimoun. Fall Teen Performance Lab now has two once-a-week meeting options: Thursdays 4:00pm – 6:30pm, October10, 2013 – January 30, 2014 (or) Saturday mornings 9:00am – 11:30am, October 12, 2013 – February 1, 2014. “Thank you for changing my life!” says teen Playhouse veteran S. Jimenez.
