“One of the best in the country!” hails Variety. “Thank you for changing my life!” says eight-year Playhouse veteran S. Jimenez. Feel the excitement when your teens plunge into the specially-designed Santa Monica Playhouse summer Teen Performance Camp program, unleashing their creativity as they study with theatre professionals in a supportive and dynamic atmosphere to help create an original play based on their own ideas and ideals. Through the renowned Playhouse method, members learn to build a trusting ensemble and create truthful characterizations. Program focus includes voice and movement, text and theatre history, costumes and make-up, sets and props, lighting and sound, and culminates in a fully mounted stage production. Added bonuses include a new found sense of self, increased confidence, and a profound appreciation for the arts. Limited class size means every student receives personal attention, developing the ability to excel in performance on any stage and in any artistic endeavor – theatre, dance, musical performance, television, film – from school productions to the Broadway stage. Playhouse alumni include Jason Ritter, Zoey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Obi Ndefo, Jason Segel, Mickey Madden, Inara George, Shana Feste, Rina Mimoun. “Thank you for the time and effort you put into making the Santa Monica Playhouse what it is. You are proof that dreams and possibilities are endless when you believe in yourself,” says workshop grandma Christella Cain. Help your teens believe in themselves with the Santa Monica Playhouse Summer Teen Performance Camp Program. Classes meet Mondays through Fridays, 9am to 3pm. One-week (July 14-18), two-week (July 21-August 1) and three-week (June 23-July 11) sessions available to fit even the busiest summer schedule. Workshop mom K. Taylor sums it up: “Santa Monica Playhouse programs teach teamwork, tolerance, creativity, focus, listening skills, discipline, self esteem, confidence building, responsibility, camaraderie and more. These are invaluable practical and creative skills my daughter will be able to draw on and continue to develop throughout her educational career and into adulthood.” Santa Monica Playhouse is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, by the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission and by US Bank.
