PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — Santa Monica police are searching for a suspect in an attempted sexual assault that occurred on Christmas Day.

The victim was walking northbound on the beach near the waterline in the 2700 block of the beach when the suspect approached her with his arms held out. The suspect grabbed the victim in a bear hug, pushing her to the ground where he attempted to force her legs apart.

The victim fought back and the suspect fled in a northwest direction as the victim gave chase. She eventually lost sight of the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as being a Latino, 25-30 years old with a medium build. He has dark eyes and black, wavy hair.

At the time of the alleged assault he was wearing a black collared shirt, a dark jacket and dark colored jeans.
