Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights condemns the overt bigotry that burst into view with several disturbing events this summer in Santa Monica and the appalling weekend of white-supremacist mayhem in Charlottesville.
Such atavistic, primitive hatred has no place in our community nor in our country, built on the ideals — still imperfectly achieved — of equality and dignity for all people.
We are heartened by the united spirit that saw the most recent anti-racist meeting in one of our public parks proceed undisturbed, as huge numbers of community members converged in a peaceful show of unity.
The white supremacists stayed away in the face of this powerful demonstration of our community values of inclusion and solidarity.
We as a community stand vigilant and unbowed in our determination to ensure that such bigotry is unconditionally rejected and will be resisted with the full force of our collective resolve.
