Santa Monica businesses are vying for your affection.
Folks are being encouraged to log on and vote for their most loved local business as part of the Buy Local Campaign, which encourages people to shop in town instead of traveling to neighboring cities, which wastes gas and does not funnel tax dollars back into the community.
The online survey can be accessed at buylocalsm.com through Feb. 28.
“This is a fun contest we launched ‚Ä¶ for the first time ever ‚Ä¶ and we hope it takes off,” said Jennifer Taylor, economic development administrator for City Hall. “It‚Äôs a short online survey with 21 categories including Most Loved Main Street Business, Most Loved Happy Hour and Most Loved SM Farmers Market Vendor.
“Whether you live, work, play, shop, eat or are just visiting, you are likely have your favorite ‚Äòlocals‚Äô that you like to support,” Taylor said.
Once people vote, they will be entered to win prizes including gift certificates from Bar Pinxto, Fedora Primo, Huckleberry, Gioia, Moxie Beads, Salon Tru SM and Shaka Shack Burgers, free dance lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Center Santa Monica, an electric bike experience with Pedal‚Ä¶or Not!, a five-class pass to Santa Monica Yoga and Buy Local SM T-shirts.
The winning businesses will be featured in the Santa Monica Daily Press‚Äô “Most Loved SM” guide and will also receive formal recognition from City Hall at an awards ceremony where the mayor will present framed certificates to the “Most Loved Santa Monica” Businesses of 2014.
The Daily Press is a Buy Local partner, along with business improvement organizations for Main Street, Montana Avenue, Pico Boulevard and Downtown Santa Monica.
