Santa Monica Councilman Kevin McKeown was named Democrat of the Year by Los Angeles County Democrats for the second time in three years.
McKeown will represent the 50th Assembly District along with Melissa Grant of Pacific Palisades.
“Democratic values of social justice and affordable housing sometimes play out most personally at the local level, and I’m privileged to make a small difference as a Santa Monica City Councilmember,” McKeown said in an e-mail.
Rep. Henry Waxman, (D-Santa Monica) lauded McKeown for his response to homelessness and affordable housing in a release.
“I am delighted to congratulate Kevin on his receipt of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party Democrat of the Year Award for the 50th Assembly District at their Roosevelt Dinner,” he said. “During his four terms as a Santa Monica City Council member, Kevin has established himself as a strong progressive who embodies Democratic Party principles”
McKeown will be honored at a dinner on Oct. 20.
