CITYWIDE — Three of the four Santa Monica-based girls’ basketball teams in the postseason advanced in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs this week.
The St. Monica Mariners easily dispatched Loma Linda Academy on Thursday in Division 4A action. They advance to take on Milken Community in the second round Saturday on the road.
St. Monica was led by Briana Harris, who posted a triple double with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She also recorded 7 steals in the winning effort. Melissa Maragnes had a career-high 26 points and collected a game-high 15 rebounds.
Also in Division 4A, Crossroads knocked out Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 55-51, on Thursday.
The win sets up a second round matchup with L.A. Baptist Saturday on the road.
Pacifica Christian toppled Le Lycee, 42-34, Thursday in wild card play to advance to the first round of the Division 5A playoffs.
Pacifica will travel to Desert Christian Academy on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The fourth local team in the playoffs, Samohi, will visit Buena for first round action in Division 1AA on Saturday.
Season ends for St. Monica, Xrds boys
St. Monica’s boys’ basketball team was eliminated from the CIF-SS Division 4A playoffs on Wednesday at Costa Mesa, 46-22.
The St. Monica Mariners were the third place finisher in the Camino Real League this season in Head Coach Khi-Min Jung’s second year leading the team.
Crossroads’ boys were also eliminated from Division 4A play on Wednesday. The Roadrunners fell to St. Anthony, 66-56, also on Wednesday.
Xrds entered the playoffs as an at-large team from the Delphic League.
