CITYWIDE — This year’s California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section basketball playoffs will feature a number of teams based in Santa Monica.
Santa Monica High School will send both its girls’ and boys’ teams. The boys will open the CIF-SS Division 1AA playoffs against No. 11 seeded Upland on the road Wednesday at 7 p.m. The girls, the No. 7 seed in the 1AA bracket, will host Rancho Verde at home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Both teams from St. Monica also qualified for the postseason. The boys open at home against Sage Hill on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Division 5AA. The girls, led by the school’s all-time scoring leader Cory LaGuardia, will host Workman on Thursday at 7 p.m. The girls play in Division 5AA.
Crossroads will also send both of its squads to the playoffs. The boys travel to Desert Christian on Wednesday at 7 p.m., like St. Monica, Crossroads is in Division 5AA. The girls will also be on the road. The Roadrunners will face Oak Park, the No. 8 seed in CIF-SS Division 4AA.
Pacifica Christian’s boys’ squad will travel to San Fernando Valley Christian on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Division 6AA.
